Fairview Developmental Center COVID-19 Memory Care Unit
From 6bed.org
“In an effort to relieve some of the burden currently being experienced by Orange County hospitals and providers of Senior Living services, a collaboration between Alzheimer's Orange County, the OC Health Care Agency and the CA Department of Social Services was formed to open the Fairview Developmental Center COVID-19 Memory Care Unit to care for older (age 60+) patients with cognitive impairment who cannot be adequately isolated or monitored in their home setting. It is appropriate for individuals who are COVID+ but are asymptomatic, or have mild symptoms of COVID-19, and do not require a skilled level of care.
This facility will operate as an RCFE (Residential Care Facility for the Elderly) and all facility costs will be covered by the County of Orange. Medication costs will be billed to the residents’ insurance. We hope to be of assistance with frail, elderly individuals who need to be cared for in a temporary residential setting, where they can recover from COVID+ status until they can return to their previous homes.
To be placed in the Fairview Developmental Center COVID-19 Memory Care Unit, the patient/resident must meet the following criteria:
Cannot be safely isolated or monitored in a home or regular Assisted Living setting
COVID-19 diagnosis confirmed by PCR (not rapid antigen)
Has no symptoms, or only mild symptoms of COVID-19
Does not require IV therapy of any kind
Supplemental oxygen requirement no more than 2 liters per minute (2 LPM)
Does not have conditions prohibited for RCFE placement:
Feeding tube
PIC line or central line
Stage III or IV decubitus
Any condition requiring one-on-one care
Does not have severe behavioral issues
This facility is for short-term stays, while the resident is recovering from COVID+ status, and not for long term placement. The Assisted Living Community, Board & Care Home or Skilled Nursing Facility which has been the resident’s previous home must be willing to take the resident back once cleared, using the CDC guidelines. Residents currently enrolled in Hospice can be admitted, provided they meet all other criteria.
Attached you will find our Pre-Screening Form. When you have a patient/resident who fits the admission criteria, please complete the form and send it back to covid@alzoc.org or FAX to 949.210.3330. If you have questions, I am available via cell phone at 714. 349.5517, or e-mail patty.mouton@alzoc.org, and you may connect directly with the Administrator, Sandy McDaniel-Laughlin, RN, MSN at covid@alzoc.org or 949.466.5421. “
